To register in the state of Alabama, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Reside in Alabama
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have not been convicted of a felony (or have rights restored)
- Have not been legally declared "mentally incompetent" by a court
In order to vote in an election for the first time, you must register at least ten (10) days before the election takes place.
Once you are registered to vote at a particular location, you will remain on the voting roster until you
change your place of registration or are deceased.
To register, all you have to do is fill out the Alabama Postcard Voter Registration Form, downloadable in
PDF format
here
and mail it in to your local Board of Voter Registration. To find out your local Board's mailing address,
look on page three of the PDF document, or
Officers of the
VOTES Coalition and the
SGA Committee for Voter Registration and Education may also take
your voter registration cards if you do not wish to mail them and will turn them over to the proper authorities.
If you live too far from home to drive home and vote, the VOTES Coalition recommends that you:
- Re-register to vote at your college by filling out a new registration card, or
- Apply for absentee voting. To do this, fill out this form
and send it to your Circuit Clerk
If you are currently serving overseas in some capacity (military or civilian), please
check here for
information on how you can vote.
